After originally training as a landscape architect, Jay Windsor established Southern Habitat in 1998. Originally based in the Shoalhaven area, operations were moved to Wollongong in 2001 to reflect growing sales and opportunities. As the industry grew, so did the company, establishing itself as one of the Illawarra's leading environmental contracting companies, specialising in the management of natural areas and the restoration of degraded environments.
Our mission is to exceed our customers' expectations by delivering cost-effective environmental solutions whilst ensuring the protection of local ecosystems and the conservation of natural, cultural and manufactured resources.
Southern Habitat offers local and state government, developers, landscape architects, private landholders and community groups a range of integrated services including:
- professional advice including management plans and strategies;
- implementation of environmental site works including restoration, rehabilitation and construction;
- plant supply and contract growing;
- vegetation maintenance and monitoring.

All Southern Habitat's projects are conducted within our comprehensive Occupational Health & Safety system that reflects legislative and industry standards. All site staff have completed basic OH&S training ('Green Card') and receive site-specific safety inductions. We also use a range of task-related Safe Work Methods Statements (SWMS) for all on-site works.
